Mussel Socker

Job Overview


The job consists of socking uniformly graded mussels into mesh socks in preparation for deployment.


Full Time - Temporary

The season is from September 20th through December 17th and offers a 40–50-hour work week.

Plant Maintenance Technician

For over 35 years Atlantic Aqua Farms and Canadian Cove Mussels have set the highest standard of Quality in the North American Mussel Industry. We are currently looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our team in our Orwell Cove facility in Prince Edward Island. This is a permanent full time position.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for various daily preventative maintenance duties as well as troubleshooting and repair (mechanical and electrical) of all building systems and equipment.

We are looking for someone with experience in one of the following trades:

  • Electro-mechanical Technician
  • Industrial Electrician
  • Production Equipment Mechanic
  • Millwright or Industrial Mechanic
Knowledge of electrical systems and electronic control is a must.
Experience working with microprocessor controlled equipment and refrigeration systems is an asset. 

The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • motivated self-starter
  • attention to detail
  • results oriented
  • excellent communication and troubleshooting skills
  • ability to work well with others and periodically work unsupervised
  • good time management and organizational skills
The successful candidate must have prior maintenance experience preferably in a food processing environment and working knowledge with both mechanical and electrical/electronic systems.

Mussel Boat Deckhand

 

Atlantic Aqua Farms Ltd. is currently accepting applications for the position of “Mussel Boat Deckhand” within its farming operation. We currently have job openings in various bays across Prince Edward Island including Malpeque, Stanley Bridge, Rustico, Tracadie, St. Peter’s Bay, Georgetown, Sturgeon, Murray River and Orwell Cove. This position pays $17.16/hour and offers a competitive health and dental package. The season runs April through December and offers a 40–50-hour work week.

The mussel boat deckhand reports to the boat operator

 Job Description

The mussel boat deck hand is a manual labor position working under the direction of the boat operator performing various farming tasks required in the successful production of blue mussels.

 Responsibilities and Duties

  •  Harvesting mussel seed.
  • Tying mussel socks to back lines.
  • Adding buoy flotation to backlines.
  • Double socking mussel socks.
  • Spraying mussel socks.
  • Liming mussel seed.
  • Harvesting mussel socks for processing.
  • And other duties as required.
  • We offer on the job training however previous mussel boat deck hand experience is considered and asset.
  • Previous fishing experience.
  • Dependable
  • Hard working
  • Reliable attendance is a requirement.
