Portuguese Mussel Stew

INGREDIENTS

2 Tbs. olive oil
12 small new potatoes, boiled until soft
1 Tbs. chopped garlic
1 lb. Linguica or Chourico (spicy) sausage, cut in 1/4 in. slices
(Polish sausage can be substituted)
1 28 oz. can plum tomatoes
3 Tbs. chopped fresh basil
Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes
4 lbs. Canadian Cove mussels

DIRECTIONS
Heat oil in large pot. Gently sauté garlic, add tomatoes, juice and all. Stir in basil and pepper. Simmer 20 minutes. Add potatoes and sausage slices - heat through. Add mussels. Cover and steam until shells open. Serve in bowls with crusty bread.
