Barbecued Mussels with Spicy Dip

Serves Serves 4 as an appetizer

INGREDIENTS

2 lbs. Canadian Cove mussels
1 12-oz. jar prepared salsa, taco sauce, or hot pepper sauce
Charcoal grill with top to cover

DIRECTIONS
Place mussels on grill in one even layer, about 4 inches above medium hot coals. Cover the grill and cook for 5 minutes. To avoid overcooking, remove mussels from heat when shells are open and the meat pulls away from the shell. Discard any which do not open. Arrange the mussels (preferably on the half shell) on a large platter and serve with sauce on the side for dipping.
